Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (3 Stars)

I think the Mission Impossible is a cool franchise idea. It’s like Bond, it has a certain flare about it. The only problem with it…Tom Cruise. I do not rate Tom Cruise as an actor and to be it instantly spoils the Mission Impossible franchise and I’ve not been overly impressed with the last ones.

Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), an undercover agent similar to Bond who works for America’s IMF, has been collecting intelligence on an underground Terrorist network called The Syndicate. Evidence becomes more clear of this rogue nation when former secret agents presumed dead, resurface and attack Ethan. However, the IMF – who has failed and caused damage once too often is shut down. Hunt is forced to come in, but goes awol, becoming a fugitive hell bent on getting to the bottom of and ultimately stopping The Syndicate.

This film would have been like the others if it had not been for Simon Pegg. It would have been a run of the mill 2 star mission impossible adventure. I think Simon Pegg is a very talented actor and has the ability to do something rare and that is to genuinely make me laugh. I am trying to think of a film he has done that I have not like…(I’ll let you know if I ever find one). Pegg character is made to seem funny whilst also been a serious character and I think he makes the film bearable. However, if he is not in the next Mission Impossible – I don’t think I’ll bother going to watch it.
